The coronavirus outbreak means that many businesses are temporarily closed. This includes Royalty Dental Associates and many other dental practices, both in the Houston area and beyond. We will open our doors as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, practice good oral home care to keep your mouth as healthy as possible. Here are some of our favorite home care tips.
Brush and Floss Correctly
Brushing and flossing are obviously important. However, the way you clean your teeth might not be effective. Be sure to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. Set a timer while you brush- two minutes can seem like a surprisingly long time! Brush with a fluoride toothpaste with the ADA seal on the package.
Floss your teeth at least once per day. Make sure your floss cleans both the front and the back of the teeth. Also, make sure that your floss reaches all the way down to the gum line.
Eat as Well as Possible
What we eat and drink can have a big impact on our oral health. Try to limit processed sugar and acidic foods/beverages to protect your tooth enamel. You can also rinse your mouth out with plain water after eating or drinking to clear away debris and bacteria.
Monitor Your Symptoms
If you experience any unpleasant symptoms, make a note of them. Pain, swelling, or changes in your tooth or gum appearance can all indicate dental problems. Monitor your issues and keep track of when they occur. For instance, some people experience tooth pain at night, while others only experience pain while eating. This will help us get to the bottom of things when our office resumes regular dentist visits.
